Electroless Nickel Coating Costs

Electroless nickel coating costs vary based on the type of electroless nickel bath that is used. Other factors influencing price include material and component availability and current market conditions. In general, a nickel-phosphorous alloy is the least expensive option, while composites are the most expensive. Use the chart below to make a cost comparison. Ni-P $1.00 - $3.00
Ni-B $10.00 - $20.00
Composite EN-P $5.00 - $10.00
Composite EN-B $15.00 - $25.00

Electroless nickel plating is a process in which a nickel alloy is deposited on a metal surface via chemical reaction. Unlike nickel electroplating, electroless nickel plating does not require a power source to produce the deposit. The electroless nickel coating can help reduce the effects of corrosion and wear, which can extend the useful life of metal parts and equipment.

TYPES OF ELECTROLESS NICKEL COATINGS

An electroless nickel coating may consist of an alloy of nickel and either phosphorous or boron. A nickel-phosphorous alloy is typically used when protection against corrosion is desired and may consist of a low, medium or high level of phosphorous treatment. An electroless nickel coating using a nickel-boron alloy is the best choice when wear resistance is the primary concern. Composite electroless nickel coatings as well as those using carbides, diamonds, and polymers may also be used in wear resistance applications.

ELECTROLESS NICKEL PLATING ADVANTAGES

In addition to not requiring an electrical power source, the electroless nickel plating process allows for an even coating distribution on parts' surfaces. The desired thickness of the finish can also be achieved with relative ease. Electroless nickel plating offers the flexibility for a matte, semi-bright or bright finish, making this a highly versatile plating option. Perhaps the biggest drawback is that the chemicals used to
